| Roger Ebert on belief | | Date Created: Sep 09, 2005, 11:02 PM |
I believe I mentioned that I saw Roger Ebert at the CWA (Conference on World Affairs) last spring. He was on a panel regarding evolution vs. creationism and so-called Intelligent Design. This was seemingly far afield for him but he was absolutely brilliant both in his analysis and in his presentation of it. Since then I've followed him with even greater interest and he just continues to get better. His reviews are always worth reading and he pumps them out at an incredible rate. Here's his website if you're interested.

The following is from his review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The review deals not only with the review of the movie but of the nature of beliefs.
"'Demons exist whether you believe in them or not,' says the priest at the center of 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose'. Yes, and you could also say that demons do not exist whether you believe them or not, because belief by definition stands outside of proof. If you can prove it, you don't need to believe it."
Enjoy this guy while he's still around. He knows whereof he speaks.
