Do you really want convicted murderers to be able to walk in and buy a gun? If not, how would you propose to prevent that in a way that eliminates any vestige of an annoyance?
Capital punishment.
Or, at least, life in prison. If we trust them, why can't they buy guns? If we don't trust them, why are we letting them out? (And if we don't trust them not to kill people, why do we trust them to obey laws on gun acquisition or possession?)
