David Boaz on the relentless, but not inevitable, growth of government

OK, I give up trying to explain Big Government. It seems inevitable and relentless. It grows, particularly in wartime, and politicians have learned to invent wars to allow for more growth of their money and power. There’s the ratchet effect — it grows but doesn’t slip back. And then there’s the conservatives who believe in limited government and freedom of choice without government intervention until they get in power and then government power and control is just fine. And of course liberals only know government solutions involving money and power to any and all problems.

Well David Boaz of the Cato Institute has a book on the subject aand here’s a speech on the subject that came from Cato Audio The Voice of Liberty. Let’s see if he can do better than I can.
