I promised to make it official and post my Oscar predictions.
It's important to repeat that this is a prediction of who will win rather than who should win. Also, this year I made the mistake of seeing several of the movies involved. This will not help my accuracy.
Best supporting actress:
This is usually the first to be given out, the hardest to predict, and most often unexpected. I'm therefore going against the consensus on Blanchett
Virginia Madsen
Best supporting actor:
This is a sentimental favorite but is also likely by consensus
Morgan Freeman
Best Actress:
This one should win and will win. She's the next Meryl Streep
Hillary Swank
Best Actor:
This is a lock.
Ray Charles, er Jamie Foxx
Best Picture:
much tougher call. Aviator is an Oscar type picture and Clint has already won and isn't sympatico with the limousine liberals but
Million Dollar Baby
Best Director:
same as for best picture. Scorsese still hasn't found the right vehicle and the right time. Lifetime achievement award coming up for him.
Clint Eastwood
extra credit:
I agree with Entertainment Weekly on Sideways best adapted screenplay and best original screenplay to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Best song? Forget it. Impossible to predict. Dr. Reptile would like to see Counting Crows win it for Absolutely in Love but I'm not falling into that trap. |
