I PAID FOR IT
WE'VE HEARD THIS
BEFORE?
DEJA
VU?"I paid for it." That's what Governor
Rowland declared to reporters today when asked who paid for two dirt bikes. It's
story first reported by the New Haven Register http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CT_ADMINISTRATION_CORRUPTION_1ST_LD-WRITETHRU_CTOL-?SITE=CTNHR&SECTION=STATE&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
The guv also said "I paid for it" when asked
who bought the now infamous hot tub. He wouldn't lie to reporters again, would
he?TESTY, TESTY,
TESTYAfter being on the verge of tears
last week, Rowland was back to being his old feisty self with reporters today.
The guv got into a snit with New Haven Register reporter Greg Hladky. After
answering Hladky's initial question Rowland moved onto another question from
someone else. But Hladky wanted to ask a follow-up and interrupted Rowland's
answer to the other question. Rowland quickly turned around and looked Hladky in
the eye and said "excuse me." This went on a few more times. Rowland walked away
with reporter in tow.MEDIA
WATCHIt's not really my role to critique
my colleagues who have been chasing this story. The news biz is a very
competitive one. And John Rowland deserves every scrutinizing eye because of his
own misdeeds. And, for the most part most everyone that has covered the Rowland
saga have acted in a professional manner. But something has been bothering me,
it's something that also bothered in a previous job as a press aide to another
beleaguered pol, former DC Mayor Marion Barry. Some reporters may be looking to
make a "name" for themselves with getting the next big story or angle with this
story. And you know, that's fine, but I wonder if the physical positioning of
some reporter's and the timing of their questions to the governor are aimed more
at making it into the next station promo than truly advancing this story.
