Ernest and Sandhya Prabhakar's 2005 Christmas Letter

In a year rocked by hurricanes and earthquakes, we pray this letter finds you all in good health and good spirits. We ourselves have been blessed beyond words, yet – as the song says – “I can’t complain, but sometimes I still do!” To help us break that habit, we wanted to share our Top Five Blessings from 2005.

5. Our Jobs
Hallelujah! In six more months, Sandhya will finish her residency in Family Practice, where she is now Chief Resident. We plan to move back to San Jose, where Ernie still telecommutes to work for Apple. He’s taken on new responsibilities for XML and Open Standards which gives him many opportunities to practice his ‘Radical Centrist’ philosophy of consensus building.

4. Our Church
We’ve been enjoying the warm fellowship and spirited worship of Harvest Church since joining in January. Sandhya made several new friends through the women’s retreat and mentoring program, while Ernie has a couple buddies he regularly meets for breakfast. We are also grateful for the many friends in San Jose who host Ernie during his weekly trips to Apple.

3. Our Family
This has been a wonderful time of growing closer to all our families, especially:
• Driving through Kerala with Sandhya’s parents during a February visit to India.
• Ernie’s parents, who came for Memorial Day and painted the garage!
• Vacationing in and around San Francisco with Ernie’s brother’s family (Larry, Lorra, Nicholas, Hannah, Sophie & Lily) for a delightful week in August.
• Deep “bloviating” emails from Sandhya’s brother Yohaan in Minnesota

2. Each Other
After nearly six years of marriage, we are still learning many things about each other — and ourselves! Despite Sandhya’s long hours and Ernie’s many business trips, we took several mini-vacations to Napa, Sonora, Reno, and other scenic locations nearby. Through it all, our love continues to grow and mature, and we are ever more grateful for the miraculous way God brought us together.

1. Jesus
Through many joys and occasional sorrows, we are continually reminded of our human limitations, and the high price of love. From that perspective, God’s Christmas gift to us of Jesus seems all the more remarkable — and necessary! May that Gift be your strength and joy this season, and the year ahead.

Love, Ernie & Sandhya
