There were two things on my mind when I created my tile. Looking at the edges of the tile I was reminded of water. In searching my catalog of digital stills I found one taken during the making of a documentary as I traveled with three companions to NY City November 11, 2001. The documentary, "Where We're Bound" was a series of interviews with the folks we encountered on this five day trip. Our primary interest was hearing what folks had to say about America, September 11, and the war to come.

Along the way we chanced upon a stream in Virginia and took two hours to enjoy its quiet beauty. I've often thought about that stream in the many days of global unrest since our trip.

This ties into my thinking of the past ten years. I truly believe that an entirely different world is possible and that it's up to us to create what we want.

The moments of that day, the images and video, have been a part of various projects in the past year. I suppose there was a kind of quiet communion between the four of us traveling together and the natural world. It was a time for being calm in a world which had become very turbulent. It was also a time for us to reflect on what we were discovering about our fellow citizens and our own thoughts and conversations.
