Inspiration for 'The Siren' started with the two edges Lesh sent. The top edge was blue and the bottom edge had blue, earth tones and grays. Sky, water, and rocks.
Listening to iTunes, I heard 'Song To The Siren' by Robert Plant. In this song, Plant paints a picture with music, voice, and lyrics. It's a haunting melody that was included in the soundtrack for the motion picture 'Moonlight Mile'.
I scribbled a few sketches on a Graphire tablet in Photoshop 7 to get ideas. Then I remembered a painting I love. "A Mermaid" painted by John William Waterhouse in 1901. (See detail below)
After a few false starts, it finally came together. Done on an iMac Special Edition Graphite 600 with a gigabyte of RAM running OS 10.2.3 (and an iBook 300 running OS 9.2.2 with Photoshop 5.5).
