"Night Light"

I wanted to incorporate the elements of water, sky and light for my tile theme. Originally, this was to be a daylight setting but when I put the cloudy sky photo into the tile, it looked like nighttime. The cloudy sky photo is one that I took a long time ago and have used frequently for backgrounds. The version used was darkened in Photoshop and just seemed to fit. Then I put the moon into the upper right corner. Water was made using a Photoshop filter, "Flood" by Flaming Pear. The water catches reflections from the sky, clouds and moon.

Then came the task of matching the one tile edge sent to me by Leslie. I built an island by extending the elements of the lower part of the matching edge.

A lighthouse was then built on what became a tropical island with palm trees. I matched the blue color on the neighboring tile to become the light shined in that direction by my lighthouse. Hence the name, "Night Light".

For fun, I added a few subtle pieces of artwork and photos to the tile. There is an X shield symbolizing OS X. The moon has a photo of one of my wife's backyard art. There is also a hand holding up the moon which is from my "Catching Light" photo. You may even notice my previous mosaic tile lurking just underwater. A few other goodies and stars in the sky finished up this tile.

This community project has been great fun and I hope we do more of these in the future.

The gear used to make "Night Light":
Apple Power Macintosh 733 G4 QuickSilver - OS X 10.2
Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 - Adobe Photoshop 5
