Short Term Goals



At the sense of "Keeping up with the joneses," now that my friends Wayne and Ed have seen their child born (they did the surrogate route) and Kevin and Juan are heading full-steam ahead into the adoption route, we are going to really do this thing.

We have signed up with Adoptions Together to attend an intro to adoption seminar. This is an agency Kevin recommended to me. We're going to fully explore this thing. I still want an infant, and Dave doesn't really want that, he'd rather go a little older and avoid the nighttime crying.

I'm gonna lobby heavily for infancy, because I really want to go through the earliest stages with my baby :).

I'm very excited thinking through what life will be like once we do this.... I mean, the idea of taking my child everywhere and being one of those people who has to sheepishly stand up in the restaurant with the screaming child to soothe and comfort and glance apologetically at all the childless patrons.... quite seriously, while I know it will be hard at times, I feel a real need to do this - to shit or get off the pot.

Of course this conflicts with the wine fetish and the retire at 55 dream..... but any and all of that is still do-able, depending on how we make things work.

Dave wants to quit pharma and go to work for the fire department. I support this on many levels, not the least of which are the uniform fetishes and hot co-workers to have over for bbqs all summer long. :)
That will put a real financial strain on us since he will take a 20k pay cut to do this until he is allowed to do overtime, of which there is plenty. But since he will work 9-12 days per month, it will also cut childcare expenses.

So we shall see where this goes.....
