Just Vote No

One day to go ...

Tomorrow is the day we find out whether Virginia will make the right kind of history.

There are many people I've met during this campaign who have inspired me and strengthened my resolve to do all that I can to defeat Ballot Question #1.

There is the supporter who dug into his retirement savings to contribute a magnificent $50,000 to help fund our voter outreach.

There is the woman who put an envelope in my hand and told me that she'd "saved up" to be able to contribute the $25 enclosed.

There is the couple who had the courage to stand up and tell their family's personal story again and again.

And, today, a supporter shared this story which says everything I want to say about what each of us should be doing today:

I want to share this personal note - I made the dreaded call to my mom today to discuss this subject and to explain to her why it was so important that she vote "no". She and her husband are staunch Republicans & I have never discussed with her my lifestyle but felt I had no choice but to do so and explain how this amendment would affect me.

After a lengthy discussion, she told me she would call me back. Within the hour, she called back and stated that she was glad I called and explained things to her as she did not understand the amendment and stated that she and her husband had decided to vote "no."

While I hated the dreaded conversation, I think it did some good for us all and I was able to get 2 more votes.

Today, I urge you to call or write at least one more person and make tomorrow's vote "personal."

Then, take comfort in the strong moral and spiritual foundation offered by the more than 280 clergy who have come together to oppose Virginia's Ballot Question #1.

Here's what they said in the statement of opposition that they signed and released at a press conference last Thursday.
