Community Reform

Dang I love Wes

Wes' other link today (I just love promoting his site, you should visit cause he needs more regular readers)... is about this article in NYTimes (you have to register, but its worth it).

I love this stuff. It's a group of people pushing hard to look at real reform to break the poverty cycle - they don't want band aids and charity - they want to find ways to make children traditionally labelled at-risk of failure academically successful, and successful for life.

So many of these programs aren't very useful cause the kids fall apart 2 years after participation - they are a stopgap measure that touches a small number but doesn't make systemic change. This guy is really trying to create long-term change. I love this article. It's 10 pages long, but read it and leave me your thoughts. For just $1400 per child per year, the cycle of poverty can end.

Isn't that more important than all that money we spent to conquer and occupy Iraq?
