Leg DayMust remember to stretch......
I used to have me some killer legs. Back when I
played rugby I reached a max squat weight of 315 for 6 reps (I had to have
someone standing behind me in case I crumbled under all the weight (and ok you
have to pick someone REAL cute to stand behind you at that point too!)). After
the aidsride in 01, I lowered my working squat weight and slowly alternated in
machines cause I hated doing squats all of a sudden - I couldn't get back up to
a working weight of 225 for more than 2 sets and only like 8 reps each set. So I
moved to machines, in order to preserve my
ego.
So I started doin real squats again today _ i probably haven't done real squats in like a year. Just one problem - the second rep into the second set _OUCH. For some reason my hamstring started to feel like it was gonna SNAP. So I racked the bar - put the weights away and moved on to leg press. Damn that hurt. Now I must admit that I am not one to stretch before lifting. I usually stretch a bit between sets and exercises. I guess the old body is tryin to tell me I am in fact no longer in my 20s and it is long past time to take up a regular stretching routine. See why I want to do yoga???? While I was at the gym, I saw on the news that the University of Michigan has put out a list of words that they want people to stop using . I like this idea. Metrosexual is one. hmmmmmmm. Current and recent reads:
Evan Thomas et. al. discuss the ins and outs of the campaigns of 2004 from inside them both - a fast read on the plane and made me want to scream with the accounts of missteps on the part of the Kerry team!
Currently reading Walsch's new book - it is really helping me to solidify my current angst over spiritual direction and figure out where I am going and growing. I highly recommend this as a read to everyone who wants to leap forward, or at least delve deeper into their understanding of God and our place in the universe.
