"Leǔtenanto S.R. McDonnell raportas kiel ordonata," she tells the receptionist.  "Is there anybody here who can tell me what this is about?"

"Bonvole sidigu, moŝto," the receptionist says.  "It's my understanding that somebody will be in to explain shortly."

"McDonnell," she hears a now familiar voice.  She turns to see Ravenhair Enrika sitting in the waiting room.  "I see we have similar orders."

"Enrika, good to see you again.  Do you have any idea why we're here?"

"Not a one.  Received orders last night, and was told not to take anything by mouth after midnight."

"Me, too.  Why does it sound like we're in for surgery?"

"That would make sense.  NPO, and we're told to report to the medical bay."

MoonShadow starts to sit down across from Ravenhair, but a man with captain's pips and a name tag reading GREENE, walks into the room, and they are both suddenly standing at attention, snapping a salute.

"As you were," he says. "Your promptness is appreciated.  Shall we go in?"

Both women follow Captain Greene into an examination room where two medical corpsmen in scrubs waited.  "Before we get started, may I have two minutes with the Leǔtenants?"  The medical team exit silently.

MoonShadow and Ravenhair look at Captain Greene expectantly. "Ladies, we have something of a quandary.  The two of you are about to become bridge officers, do you understand that?"

"It had crossed our minds, Captain."

"Well, junior officers can't be bridge officers.  Are you familiar with the technical augmentations required of bridge officers?"

"Do you mean the implants?"

"Yes.  Aural and visual implant enabling efficient communication between bridge crew and ship's computers.  But this procedure isn't performed on sub leǔtenants.  Therefore, your promotions." Captain Greene gives each woman a data disk.  "As of this moment, you are both full leǔtenants.  You are out of uniform.  I expect to see you both in my office as soon as you've recovered.  The corpsmen have some papers for you to sign."

Without waiting for acknowledgment, Captain Greene turns and leaves.
