As always there were refreshments and snacks.Ê Thanks once again to Zehr's for their kind use of their Community Room! This was a small meeting but a fun and very informative one! We had one new person attend with many questions about starting the pump. Faye McNeil of Roche Diagnostics showed us their latest range of blood glucose meters including the Accu-Chek Compact! (As always see our web site for links to this product). This meter is one of only two on the market which automatically dispenses test strips. This is a very convenient meter to use! It also incorporates many "safe" features so as to minimize "cheating", not allow test strips to be used after they have been out of their sealed container for over 90 days, and the results provided by this meter are very close to hospital lab standard results! This meter also can be taken to any facility which has Roche's "plug in computer" to download stored test results and generate some very attractive (depending on your control) graphs and statistics! Currently these machines are located at the Barrie and Orillia DECs and one is at the Front Street Shoppers Drug Mart in Orillia. Use of these machine is free and without appointment. Faye provided us with some fascinating blood glucose meter facts and a very informative Q&A on blood glucose testing. One of the most interesting presentations by the always dynamic Faye McNeil was on their unique lancing pen. She explained how to tell a good lancing device form a poor one and explained why (verified by many members at the meeting) the AccuChek pen is so painless. [Ed note: I can personally vouch for this! It's truly the most comfortable lancing device I've ever used]! Thanks, Faye for all your information and your patience with our questions! See you next year! Discussions: -Greg's wife, Sharon who is a graphic designer kindly made up a large display board for us to use at public events! Thanks! -Mood swings and blood glucoses were discussed -Darrin's bg was 18.1 at 9pm.... ...sigh... -availability of people to set up a display/man a display at Barrie City Hall Rotunda from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on World Diabetes Day which is Friday, November 14/03 Much more was discussed and enjoyed by all... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ NEXT MEETING: MONDAY DECEMBER 8TH! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ideas, topics, issues for future meetings? email me: insulinpumper@sympatico.ca +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks once again to Zehr's for their kind use of their Community Room!
