As always there were refreshments and snacks. Thanks once again to Zehr's for their kind use of their Community Room! We had two new people attend. One who has been on the pump for a year and another who is starting next week. Both have had diabetes for several decades! Congrats to both of you and good luck! Thanks so much for attending! Your input was valuable as is every pumper's - Disetronic has changed their procedure for submitting pumps for technical inspection. Call the 1-800 # on the back of the pump and you'll be emailed a form and instructions. Discussions: - treatment of sites after removal of set. - report on Jill Milliken and Ernie Eves discuss pump funding - submission of letters to Quinte if you feel OHIP should cover pump supplies - book review by Louise Marinier of Quinte: - much more! Major Discussion: On proposed changes ot the Diabetes Health care system in Ontario - all negative changes that may see many of us without decent access to a medical team. This discussion became quite lively and very interesting as it lead to areas of advocacy and possibilities for the future of pump support groups. Minutes of feel that the future of Diabetes Health care may rest with groups like SCIP and IPC and Quinte as funding to DECs may be cut further. NOW is the time make your thoughts on this known to your health providers and government members. We learned of a woman who is now blind due to Diabetes starting pump therapy! The pump is for everyone! We were reminded to keep copies of our own medial records and blood test results as it is only us who can determine if we are experiencing gradual changes in chemistry etc. It is reported that many doctors no longer have the time to do this for their patients. - reports on teh positive impact of IPC on the acceptance of pumping in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. - it was stated and generally agreed that Diabetes is a disease of "cracks"! Yes. Health care is so involved; especially for long termers with numerous complications that it is difficult to get adequate healthcare. + New URL: www.intrapump.com + Hope to see you all in September! Fall speakers: Animas and OneTouch +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Ideas, topics, issues for future meetings? email me: insulinpumper@sympatico.ca +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Diabetes Advocacy: Paul Beckwith is very active in advocacy. Paul is trying to get the Provincial Government to cover diabetes management supplies including pumps. If so covered this will make life easier for many of us who do not have private healthcare insurance and save the government billions in healthcare costs for diabetes complications down the road In addition please get a copy of his Petition (from our website) and get it signed and returned to him! If you have a few spare hours this year; please contact Paul - he needs your help! Paul: p.c.beckwith@sympatico.ca +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks once again to Zehr's for their kind use of their Community Room!
