As always there were refreshments and snacks. Thanks once again to Zehr's for their kind use of their Community Room! +++ Feature Presentation: We viewed a video tape donated by insulin Pumpers Canada of the Dr. Michael Valis public talk sponsored in March 2004. Dr. Valis is a psychologist specializing in the psychology of children and people with Diabetes. The video is 1.5 hours in length plus a 30 minute Q&A at the end (optional). A few issues Dr. Valis addressed in this talk are: - minimizing the psychological impacts of Diabetes on your self and your family - teens with Diabetes and eating disorders (3X more common and how to avoid) - how long do you go without making a Diabetes related decision? 1 hour? 2 hours? - coping with the fear of going hypo - are modern technologies such as the pump allowing you or your child the power to take 100% responsibility for Diabetes Management? If so, what are the psychological impacts? - why do most people not want to be called a "Diabetic" but love to be called a "Pumper"? Some discussion was had after the video about the importance of emotional and psychological aspects of Diabetes. +++ Other notes from the meeting: - Greg Boden spoke about other Diabetes initatives in Ontario. +++ General Discussions followed. See y'all on Tuesday May 17, 2005, 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Zehr's SOUTH END Community Room, 620 Young St., Barrie. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ NEXT MEETING: See y'all on Tuesday May 17, 2005, 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Zehr's SOUTH END Community Room, 620 Young St., Barrie.
