The second reading of Bill 55 was at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 22, 2004. There was tremendous support for Bill 55 from all sides of the House! Many MPP's spoke in favour of it and acknowledged that more use of insulin pump therapy would save the health care system significant funds in the long term! It appears that most MPPs understand the nature of Type I Diabetes and the necessity for Insulin Pump Therapy very, very well! This is due to the hundreds of letters, Faxes, emails, calls and visits many of you have made to your MPP. Great work everyone!
The battle isn't over yet though. Over the next weeks Bill 55 will be reviewed by Committee and it's regulations proposed. This is usually when a Bill ends up getting "watered down". It is important to keep up support for this Bill. If you haven't already; email or write your MPP on this issue and what a difference insulin pump therapy has made for you! The next battle after Committee will be to show support again for this Bill on it's third and final reading... ...stay tuned.
