Out West WebQuest
Printer-Friendly Document

You are going to plan a vacation to three National Parks.  You will start in Denver Colorado, and have two weeks to spend out west.  You will determine which three parks you want to visit.  Follow the guidelines and have fun!!  Remember this is a WebQuest, you will be gathering your information using the Internet.
  • You will be expected to satisfy the following requirements
  • Choose which three national parks you would like to visit
  • You must plan the vacation to three national parks
  • You must be able to plot out how long it will take to complete the trip
  • You must find lodging and how much it will cost
  • You must calculate distance and multiply them by gas prices to determine how much gas will cost
  • You must identify the names of one mountain, one lake and one river in each park
Step One: Decide which parks
First, decide which parks you would like to visit. Go to the National Park Service Web site. From there you must use your geography skills and locate the state of Colorado to see what parks are available to you.  You expected to travel to different states, but everyone will begin at the state capital, Denver, Colorado.  Record the individual web site of each national park next to the name of each park you choose to visit.

Step Two: Identifying Landmarks
Now that you know where you are going, look at the resources provided by each national park Web site in order to find the name of one mountain, one lake, and one river in each national park and place the information in the chart below.
Name of Park 1
Name of one mountain in the park
Name of one lake in the park
Name of one river in the park

Name of Park 2

Step Three: Plotting Your Trip
Using the information on your national park Websites, determine the address of each park and write it in the space provided.

Address for Park 2
Address for Park 3

City, State Zip

Routes
Now, use mapquest.com to determine what Interstate routes you need to take to get from Denver to Park1, then to Park2, and then to Park3.  Mapquest will display the total number of miles for you, so write those down, too.

Lodging
You will not be able to sleep in your car on the side of the road, it's too dangerous!  Use the web sites of several economy motel lodgings in order to find out where some motels may be on your way.  Remember to write down how much it will cost to lodge at each place you have to stay.
