End Product
A PowerPoint presentation showcasing all the different biomes of Canada.
How It Gets Started
Each class will split into groups who focus on one particular biome. After
researching to learn the characteristics of their biome, the group will
be responsible for creating a multi-slide presentation in PowerPoint
about their biome. Each slide will focus on one particular aspect
of the biome like temperature, rainfall, plant-life (including soil composition),
animal-life,
location, etc. In total, each group’s biome presentation should not
be more than six or seven slides. Each project should contain one or more
of each of the following: a hand-drawn picture that is scanned in, a photograph
taken from the internet, a photograph taken by a student or teacher, a student’s
recorded voice, a sound effect. Each project will also contain a bibliography
that gives due credit to each photograph downloaded from the internet
as well as each web page, book, or magazine consulted during the research
phase.
How It Comes Together
All the individual projects will then be cut and pasted into one PowerPoint
file. For this reason, students should not use templates in their presentations,
but use their own creativity to determine slide layout. Students should
also not alter font colors, but instead, the entire project will stick to
a consistent color scheme. The students will learn what this means in class.
How It Gets Finished
One student or small group of students will draw a map of Canada and color to
denote the locations of different biomes. That picture will be scanned in and
serve as a table of contents and jumping off point to enter each individual
groups project.
