another article about our big day

Lorraine, the reporter who interviewed us prior to the wedding, then accompanied us for the event, has published an article in the Stanford Cardinal Inquirer. I'm assuming it's a student newspaper. Corey just found it today; it was published on March 4th. She also wrote the article for UUWorld, which has yet to be published. Maybe by the end of the month we'll see something.

the freedom to marry

Last Sunday, our church devoted the worship service to "The Freedom to Marry" and publicly recognized all of the couples in our community who were recently married at city hall. Barbara, one of our ministers, gave the sermon, and it was really wonderful. I'll post some excerpts here, and you can go read the entire sermon at the archives.

in the public eye

Interesting how things have fallen into place since our wedding. We said from the beginning that we felt we were doing this as an important statement, an act of "civil disobedience", something that meant more to us than just a piece of paper.

This is why we chose to have our ministers perform our ceremony, because we feel that people need to see a religion that supports gay marriage (like Unitarian-Universalism, for instance, which has been performing same-sex marriages since 1970).

And this is why we didn't flinch when the CBS camera crew shoved their boom mike right in the middle of our happy little wedding ceremony. And then proceeded to zooooooom in on my teary face as I recited my vows. We were delighted to have them there, in fact. People need to see this.
