Searching for Baby Jessica

Back in November, I wrote an entry about the TV docudrama on the Jessica Lynch story. In it, I recalled the other "Jessica" this country has gone ga-ga over during my short lifetime. Baby Jessica. The one who fell down the big well and was rescued on national television.

It was only a passing reference. I found it interesting that the public likes to embrace these kinds of stories, and I found it more interesting that both girls were named Jessica.

I'm only mentioning this now because I've been watching my referral list on Bravenet. (This is a list of the last ten visitors to my website, and how they found it.) Usually, people find my site by putting some words into a search engine. I can look at this list and see what words they used to find me. Some of them are very interesting. I'll list some of my favorites:

• "Picture of a glass of milk"
• “online computer genius”
• “frenchie pedicure”
• "my feet are ticklish"
• “lesson plans with smurfs”
• “first year teacher blog”
• “Victoria’s Secret commercial”
• “cool online journals”
• “doug’s computer porn” (really not sure about this one)
• “Janet Jacket Superbowl Picture”
• “my feet are ticklish”
• “chalk dust, funny stuff for teachers”
• “blog photos sex”
• “superlearning free stuff on line”
• “my first teacher hot”
• “fun girl’s vacations”
• “mile high club photos” (this person must have really been disappointed!)
• “dreaming of losing teeth”
• “janet superbowl breast”

Lately, though, every time I check the list, there are at least a couple of referrals from the search term "Baby Jessica". This is surprising and a little unbelievable to me. If we trust these numbers, then at least 20% of my first-time visitors come to my site because they are looking for this little girl. Are there really that many people out there searching for Baby Jessica? Or are there so few websites containing those words? (Google currently returns 6,560 results) What a fascinating commentary on our society.

Either way, I hope some of these visitors stick around and find something else they enjoy. My daily visitors are certainly increasing (it's 10am right now, and I've had 53 unique visitors so far -- looks like it's going to be a very big day).

Welcome!
