Campus Ministry Team

Had kind of a cool experience subbing for a class on Thursday.

It's the "Campus Ministry Team" and I've subbed for them before. It's their job to put together skits for the liturgies, and do other various fun things around the campus. I think they often work on the retreats. This sort of thing is right up my alley, so I get excited every time I get asked to sub for them.

Well, usually there's really nothing for them to do during class. Their moderator works on specific things with them, and when he's away, they usually just tell me what they're working on, and the rest of the time is kind of "goof-off" time.

Well, I didn't like that so much. So the last time, I got them in a circle and started playing some team-building games with them.

To my surprise, they loved it. I've been working with adults for so long that I'd begun to get cynical about team-building stuff. But these kids just ate it up. Unfortunately, by the time we started, we only had a few minutes before class was over.

But Thursday I had them again and I came prepared with an arsenal of new games to try with them. And the kids were really into it. We did some trust exercises, and they really opened up to trusting each other. They were listening and engaged and excited and trusting.

It felt very good after report card week . . .

Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending more time with them. They meet during one of my free periods, so I think there will be many opportunities for me to help out.
