grumpy smurf and the dance of a thousand crazy, whacky, hyper smurfs![]() Energy is a very funny thing. Sometimes it's up. Sometimes it's down. And sometimes it's juuuuuuuust wrong, if you know what I mean. Today was definitely my most challenging day as a teacher so far. My students were displaying that rare ability to push every single boundary of classroom behavior, all while claiming complete innocence. (And yes, I know you're out there reading. You're probably claiming innocence even now, aren't you?) What? What did we do? We were just sitting here! That's so unfair. <sigh> I love my students. Every last one of
them. Well, except for . . . no, no, every last one of them. But today was
really a tough day, for all of us I think. Something about the length of our
classes (85 minutes!) combined with our proximity to the holiday and the end of
the semester, combined with a certain amount of academic learning we have
to do this semester (whether we like it or not), combined with the position of
the moon with relationship to the constellation Leo, combined with the fact that
these kids are still full of vitality and energy and a healthy disregard for
adults who say things like "Quiet, please" or "Let's settle down", all combined
with . . . I don't know . . . cosmic
radiation???
Anyway, we all survived. Well, except for . . . no, no, we all survived. No one got throttled by the teacher today, and I think we actually did do a little bit of learning. (At least I did, I don't know about the rest of you guys.) And I'm curious to see what we come up with for the rest of the semester. I think we have something like 10 classes left together, and I have some great ideas, but it will depend on how well we get through the stuff we're working on now. Sometimes I'd rather be the one sitting in the chair claiming innocence. What?! What did I do? I was just sitting here! That's so unfair. Um . . . can I go use the bathroom? Here endeth the lesson.
