day of frustrationMany frustrating things about today. If you
don't mind, I'm going to rant a
little:
1. My @#%&*$*#@ DSL connection is on the fritz again. I can't even begin to describe the level of rage and frustration I am having with my internet connection. My DSL connection needs to be like a Tonka truck. Remember those tough little yellow toy trucks we had when we were kids? They were stronger than Dad's lawnmowers. You could beat the hell out of those things all day long and never do any real damage. Same as "Little Tykes" stuff. Those brightly colored plastic toys, like slides and swings and stuff like that. I worked in a warehouse for a retail store once (BEST products, if you remember them) and was ordered to "field destroy" some Little Tykes stuff. They gave me an axe and told me to go out to the dumpster and ruin this toy so that nobody could pick it out of the garbage. (Yeah, that's sad in itself, but that's a different story.) What I found most interesting is that it took me like half an hour to do any damage to this thing. I vowed to myself that if I ever had kids I would fill their toyboxes with Little Tykes stuff. Anyway, that's the kind of internet connection I need. A Little Tykes internet connection. The kind of internet connection they have at NORAD. 2. I'm finishing up grades this weekend for
our first round of progress reports, and our last two projects of the marking
period were due yesterday at midnight (because they were allowed to mail them in
to me). I've been reminding them for like two weeks about these due dates, and
I still ended up with many many zeroes. Now a bunch of them are going to get
D's on their progress reports because they didn't turn in one stupid assignment.
That's really frustrating.
And I have a hard time keeping my feelings out of it. I want to try and find a way to make it not their fault, but somehow mine. I keep going over and over things in my head, and . . . well . . . they had plenty of opportunities to remember it was due, to contact me with questions or issues, or to just get it to me by midnight. I don't see what else I could have done. Grading is fun and easy until you start to run into the zeroes. Posted: Sat - September 27, 2003 at 11:25 PM |
