comrades in armsOne of my students has an aunt who is dying.
She was very upset this morning and had a sub for her first period class, so her
friends asked if she could be excused to sit in my class. It was fine with
me.
I was really moved by how much care her two friends were showing her. One of them sat on the floor so she could have the desk. And the other one kept moving to the back of the room to comfort her. It was hard for me to know how much to do for
this girl. She sat in such a way that I couldn't see her, maybe because she
didn't want me to see her cry. And she didn't say anything when she came in;
her friends did all the talking.
So I started off our class with a little talk about sacred intention, and the power of our thoughts and energy on the suffering of others. I led them through a visualization where they pictured someone they know who is suffering, then imagined them being surrounded with love. Usually they kind of roll their eyes at our visualizations, but they really did this one. They were quiet and prayerful. The whole experience was very sweet. I hope she felt the love from her classmates. Posted: Fri - October 10, 2003 at 09:32 AM |
