too much loss for young people . . .So a student asked to go to the bathroom today,
and when she came back she was a wreck. She was teary-eyed and on the edge of
sobbing. She said she needed to go to the office so she could go home. I
didn't hesitate. I just let her
go.
Another student came up to me later and told me what happened. A girl in class (who was absent today) lost her father this morning. We knew he had cancer and didn't have much time left, but I guess it was still sudden. The girl who went to the bathroom actually went to go call her on the phone, and had just found out. That's why she was crying. We were heading outside to do some trust
exercises, but I could tell that many of the students already knew, and were
pretty upset. So we spent the time outside sitting in prayer, holding her and
her family in our thoughts. I don't know if it was appropriate for me to tell
them about their classmate, but it felt right. And most of them knew
already.
I'm feeling really affected by this. I have enough trouble handling my own emotions. Sometimes, when there are thirty little piles of emotions running around, it gets to be a little too much. <sigh> Anyway, please keep my class in your prayers today. Thanks.
