in the news . . .

Corey and I had dinner with a reporter tonight. She's doing a magazine article for UU World magazine (a national magazine devoted to Unitarian-Universalism) on the gay marriages happening in San Francisco and she is going to follow us as we go through this process, join us for the ceremony, take pictures, etc.

It was really kind of exciting to feel kind of thrust into the forefront of this movement like this. Corey and I have never been the "activist" types that you see on TV these days, like our friends Molly and Davina. We aren't the ones in the trenches, writing letters to politicians, holding signs at Pride parades, etc. Mostly, we just hang out with friends, try to keep our house clean, and go to movies once in awhile.

But it truly feels like an honor to have this voice all of a sudden, both as gay men and as Unitarian-Universalists. This is a historic time and we happen to be living in the place where it's all happening. And we happen to be in a long-term, monogamous, committed relationship. And if we can somehow open someone's eyes to the reality of what is really going on, just by publicly proclaiming the sanctity of our marriage, then we are happy and proud to be part of that. And the idea that someone across the country might read about it in a magazine? That makes me even happier.

I wish there were magazine articles about gay couples when I was growing up.
