hooray for san francisco

San Francisco has now granted marriage licenses to over 3,000 gay couples. It's nice, every once in awhile, to see freedom take a step forward. No, it might not last. And things might get worse before they get better. But look what's going on in our country right now! People are talking about this issue. And they're hearing about more than just the stereotypical aspects of gay life (public sex, Pride parades, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, etc.). They're seeing us as just plain folks, which (honestly) is all we are.

That is, of course, except for the exceptional couples out there who have been leading this fight. People like Mollie and Davina, friends of ours who are leaders for MECA (Marriage Equality California) and have been working tirelessly to earn rights for us on the local and state level. Thank you both!

Many folks have asked about Corey and I, and if we've gone down to City Hall yet to make it "official". We haven't yet, and we had what we thought were good reasons for not going. (We want to have a big wedding some day, and don't want to be forced into doing it on the spur of the moment like this). But now it's clear that this is something much bigger than just a marriage ceremony. This is an important act of civil disobedience, and we feel like it's important to stand up and be counted.

So look for pictures in the coming weeks . . .
