Weekend news and having fun with search engines

Nothing exciting to report this weekend. (Sorry I didn't write yesterday.) Saw a computer client yesterday, had lunch with a friend, spent some time with Corey, and stayed up way too late working on some stuff for school. Actually, it was a lot of fun, so I didn't mind too much: we used GarageBand in class to record test questions and answers then set them to music at 60 beats-per-minute (a la Superlearning, a technique I studied in graduate school). Anyway, I wanted my students to have a complete CD of music and notes in order for them to study for the upcoming test, so I had to get it done last night.

And, as fate would have it, my CD-burner is on the fritz right now, acting like a one-hit wonder, following up a perfect CD with a bunch of duds. Can't tell what's wrong, and that drives a guy like me insane!

Today was more of the same. Went to church, where I was elected to a second term on the Board of Trustees. Then to lunch with Corey, then school, whereupon I used a working CD-burner to complete my project.

The evening was more grading, then a few minutes at the end of my long day to jot a few words to you . . .

I did notice one interesting thing this weekend. I've recently added a hit counter from Bravenet, which allows me (for free) to see how people got to my site. If they clicked on a bookmark or something, I just get "direct hit", but if they search through Google or AOL, then I can see what words they used to find my site.

Here's one I found today. Someone searched for the words "online computer genius" and it pulled up my site for them. I wrote an entry awhile back where I used those three words somewhere in the entry, and so it found it for them. This is kind of an interesting phenomenon out there in the Blogiverse. Some people will intentionally seed their weblogs with words that will attract visitors. Hmmm. Let's try an experiment. Three words:

Janet. Superbowl. Breast.

I'll check back tomorrow and let you know what happened.
