my other brother

So my other brother, Brian, will be visiting for the next couple of days. (That's him on the left.)

He was in Hawaii all last week with Debbie, his girlfriend. It was some kind of a trip for work, but he was able to schedule in a layover in San Francisco on the way home.

So I have Monday off, and Corey will meet up with us Monday night, but I need to teach on Tuesday, so Brian will be home alone for the day. Corey and I were talking about this today, and we realized that Brian will probably be just fine by himself. Knowing our roots, actually, he will most likely be in dreamland all day.

You see, we Neff boys come from a looooooooooong line of sleep farmers. Huge sleep farmers. It's kind of the family business. Passed down from father to son for generation upon generation.

The three of us could sleep for the USA in the olympics. I can just see it now . . .

[sports announcer, in hushed tones] That's right, ladies and gentleman, the middle Neff, Brian, has been going for over 14 hours now. Amazing. The folks here in Athens have never seen anything like it. He's slept right through all of the distractions -- the alarm clock, sizzling bacon, mother calling from upstairs -- everything. And he's still sleeping strong.

[second sports announcer, less experienced in the sport, but more "colorful"] Hoo-boy! This crowd hasn't seen sleeping like this in over a hundred years. Clearly, the Neff Team is going to be the one to beat. And I have a feeling that their only competition during this olympics will be from each other. The only question is, which one of the three will win?

[first announcer again] I think Brian probably has them beat for distance, but John is a shoe-in when it comes to distractions. A very heavy sleeper, if there ever was one. And Doug's kind of a mix of the two. Well-versed in both techniques. Yes, sir, this contest will just come down to a matter of who wants it more.

Maybe we'll have to test this out some day . . .
