Doug & Michael went to Minnesota for the week before Labor Day, 1999!

First stop, Minneapolis!

Of course, Minneapolis is the city of lakes, so we went to see some lakes:

Lake Calhoun

Lake of the Isles

The traffic on Hennipin in Uptown was terrible

Kevin & Michael

While we were visiting the lakes near Uptown, we ran into Kevin at a sidewalk cafe.

Then we went to see "Phyllis & Lars'" house where Mary Richards used to live (from the Mary Tyler Moore Show)!

We ate dinner with Tom & Laurie at Whitey's.

The next morning we went to the Warehouse District to eat breakfast with Heidi (remember the trip to Africa?).

Heidi lives in St. Paul now and works at Carlson Companies.

That afternoon Heidi went with us to a Twins game at the H.H.H. Metrodome.

The three of us drove around and did some sightseeing for the afternoon.

The Minnesota State Capitol Building in St. Paul

The University of Minnesota

Michael put his feet into the Mississippi.

We went shopping in Downtown Minneapolis at Dayton's!

We went to the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, where everything was either deep fried or on a stick (well, almost everything).

Corn Dogs (both deep fried and on a stick)

Fried Green Tomatoes

Deep Fried Cheese Curds

Shaved Ice & Root Beer Floats

We never did find the stand that had the deep-fried candy bars.

On our last day in the Twin Cities we stopped by the Frederic R. Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota.

Then we spent the day at Valleyfair where it was sunny, warm and almost completely empty!!!

Then we took the rental car to Duluth!
