We flew to the Kahului airport on Maui from Seattle, spent seven days exploring Maui, then we flew to Honolulu and stayed in Waikiki for two days. We HAD to go to Honolulu because the planes fly TO Maui, but they don't fly back to Seattle, so you have to go to Honolulu to get home! Go figure!
Stan
|
We stayed with Bill's friend Stan, who owns the Hamburger Mary's in Wailuku on Maui. The house was crowded because lots of people were in town for Stan's birthday and Hamburger Mary's anniversary party! |

On the first day, Bill & I hiked a bit up in the Iao
Valley. |
Then we helped the guys at Mary's move a big refrigerator... well, I took pictures...
|
...then we went to the beach!
|

The next day, Tim took us "to Mark's house". On the way there we saw some people surfing (note the little tiny surfer in this picture!!!).
Along the trail to Mark's house we stopped for a swim in a fabulous waterfall where there was a bunch of naked hippies playing the bongo drums. Click on the picture of the waterfall for a bigger picture!

Here's Mark's house, too bad he wasn't home!
|
Here's a shot of Doug getting all his blood drained out
by mosquitoes while relaxing in Mark's hammock. |
The next day, we went snorkeling. Mark (who's house we were just visiting) found us some masks, snorkels and flippers and took us to a really great spot all to ourselves. Mark followed us around floating on his surf board and handed us fish food (well, it was actually frozen mixed vegetables - fish don't really like carrots, but they go bonkers for peas and corn!).

|
After snorkeling, we drove to Lahaina to do touristy stuff (shopping, t-shirts, Hard Rock Cafe, etc.).
|
We were hoping to go whale watching, but the season was really over.
|
Mai Tai #9
|
Bill & I ate dinner at "Cheeseburger in Paradise"
and we had some more Mai Tais! Mai Tai's # 12 & 13! |
It really was paradise, and we saw a wonderful sunset over
the island of Lanai. |
On the way back to Wailuku, we saw the moon rise above the town of Kihei and Ma'alaea Bay from the highway. I think the moon was full for four days in a row!

That's the end of part one. Click here to go on! You can't miss Honolulu!
