Interesting modelling

There are many eras and locations along the route of the Canadian

Pacific railway in the mountains of British Columbia which lend

themselves to interesting modelling; the Big Hill in the Kicking Horse

Pass with its 4.4% grade, the Spiral Tunnels which replaced it, the

timber trestle bridges of the Beaver Valley, and The Loop curves and

trestles at the top of the Illecillewaet Valley, just to name a few.

Kamloops to Field 1937

John Marlor chose to model the Mountain Division from

Kamloops to Field, British Columbia in the year 1937, when steam had

reached its zenith. More specifically, he chose to model the climbs

west from Revelstoke up to and over the Eagle Pass in the Monashee

Mountains, and the climb east from Revelstoke up the Illecillewaet

River Valley to the Connaught Tunnel and Rogers Pass. In addition, he

modelled the Arrowhead Branch Line south from Revelstoke to

Arrowhead on Upper Arrow Lake.
