IN THE TIME OF THE DINOSAURSby William Wise Illustrated by Lewis Zacks
This book haunted me for decades until I came across not one but two copies of it in used book stores in Texas. This was the sort of book you used to be able to order out of catalogues they'd pass around in school. A Scholastic Book! Of course, the dinosaurs are all horrendously out of date. Even for the time, there are some glaring inaccuracies. For example, just how in the heck did the Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops end up in the position they're shown in in the big fight scene. And why, when the Tyrannosaurus kills the Triceratops, does he just walk away from the corpse instead of eating it? Was he just mad at the other dinosaur? |

A nightmarish fight scene. But where are the rest of their bodies? This looks anatomically impossible! (Note 3-fingered Tyrannosaur hand) |
A positively evil looking Allosaurus! |
