PREHISTORIC ANIMALS

by William E. Scheele

This book was written and illustrated by William E. Scheele of the Clevland Museum of Natural History. Scheele's main interest seems to have been prehistoric fish and marine life since most of the illustrations feature those creatures. But he apparently knew that dinosaurs were what the public really wanted to look at and he could draw 'em good! It is a copy of this book which the scientists in the film Rodan (Toho, 1957) show to some mine workers who claim they saw a prehistoric monster in order to help them identify it. Yet the drawing of a pteranodon which they finally select is not actually in the book (though it mimics Scheele's style).
