A Giant Golden Book
The dinosaur book to end all dinosaur books! Well, all right, I've seen some newer dino books that come pretty close. But this is an amazing piece of work. It's a Giant Golden Book and man, is it big! At 60 pages, it's not exceptionally long, but at 9 x 12 inches it's definitely giant. Once again the author is Jane Werner Watson who authored dozens of children's books in the 50s and 60s. But it's the artwork by Rudolph Zallinger that makes the piece. Zallinger also painted the famous dinosaur mural at the Yale Peabody museum. This book, created over a decade later, shows advances in scientific accuracy as well as artistic technique. Sadly, it's not considered scientifically accurate enough these days and is out of print. The good news is, this one is quite easy to find used and is usually pretty cheap, too.
