Safari in South Africa

After our wonderful safari at Londolozi, we flew to Cape Town for a few days, and then drove along the coast towards the wine country for our second week. Both the city and the scenery in the countryside were incredible.

As usual, c

Dominating the views of Cape Town is the sensibly-named
Table Mountain.

One can walk to the top, but
we took the cable car instead.

There are fantastic views at the
top, not just of Sooz but also of
the city and ocean below.

A sign in the harbor reminds us of just how far we are from home!

We took a catamaran for a tour
of the harbor on a beautiful
Easter Sunday.

The Mughettos were more studious and went to Robben Island to visit the notorious prision there.

Back on the road, this is one of the many, many road side markets the girls compelled us to stop at.

Don wrestled the van over the famous Chapman's Peak drive,
and were rewarded with beautiful sights at every turn.

This is the famous Boulder
Beach
, where all the sunbathers
are penguins!

A view up the coast on our
way to the Spier winery.

Sooz and Rita visited the equestrian center there and rode through the Stellenbosch vinyards.

The happy horseriders!

One more of the girls on their
steeds, surrounded by grapes.

Grant visited the Spier Cheetah Outreach center. Good thing the cheetah was sleepy, not hungry!

Here's the happy couple with their war paint at the Moyo restaurant.

The views all through out Stellenbosch were amazing; it looked like Hawaii in places!

Back in the saddle again, the girls got much closer to the countryside than we van passengers did.

A goregous photo, along with beautiful scenery, too!

Grant and Don played a round
at a local course. We didn't set
any club records, however!

The Neil Ellis winery was a highlight, it was in a stunningly beautiful valley.

Yet another vendor area,
selling lovely African trinkets
for us tourisits to snap up.

We ended our trip even further
out, at the Blue Gum estate.

It had a pool, and we had three boys, so there you go!

Sooz and Rita preferred a walk through the vinyards.

We went biking to work off all that good food (although our bike trip was to a cheese factory!!)

Even a ham-handed photographer like Don could not fail to take good pictures in such a pretty place!

The days were warm, but there
was a little nip in the air by the
fire, as Autumn was approcahing.

A last morning hike around
Blue Gum, and we were back
 on the road again.

Despite all the beauty and natural riches, we passed many townships, filled with people trying to work their way up.

Our last visit was to Hermanus, a famous whale-watching area.

It was a really pretty place, but
we didn't see any whales!

We did see lots of Rock Dassies,
who were very charming (and nonplussed) little animals.

Our last photo is of the beautiful night sky; we spent one evening just laying in the grass, looking up!

That's it! Hope you enjoyed this page as much as we enjoyed our holiday. Click  here to go back to the home page.
