2 days and counting
Alright, I know I've been missing in action for a
couple of weeks. My excuse? Noel's in Toronto seeing 47 films in 9 days.
That's made me a single working mom of two, temporarily. The grandparents have
come through big time: my mom and dad were here for the crucial first weekend (I
couldn't have taught for 8 straight hours on Saturday for the Course of Study
School without them), and my mother-in-law arrived yesterday evening to take
over. In between I did the honors myself for three days, begging and pleading
for secretaries and students to spell me for two hours here, one hour there,
while I snuck off to teach classes.
I have nothing to complain about, except maybe some stress. The kids have been fantastic. Noel may have seen a lot of cool movies, beat Mike D'Angelo heads-up at poker, had a lot of great noodle bowls and Vietnamese subs and street dogs -- but I got to witness Cady Gray worshipping at the shrine of the computer voice on the answering machine (as her hands are held up in adoration, she babbles in brief two-syllable declarative bursts, her version of "mailbox--one--youhave--two--messages--message--one--deleted--endof--messages"). I got to hear Archer recite his classroom rules with great delight ("One: eyes looking! Two: ears listening! Three: mouth quiet. Four: legs crossed!"). I got to hear Archer request that I stop belting out "Hungry Like the Wolf" in the car ("No singing with Mommy?") I got to watch Cady Gray dancing (actually bending her knees slightly to bob up and down -- the best she can do) while I sang a made-up song about her favorite stuffed animal, Soft Bear ("Soft Bear makes it better/Soft Bear makes it good/Soft Bear makes it better/In your neighborhood"). Eat your heart out, TIFFers. Posted: Wednesday - September 14, 2005 at 09:03 PM | |
