Promoting Information Literacy  and Lifelong Readers

The early years are critical in building a foundation for lifelong learners.   In order to maximize achievement for all students, we must provide them with the essential tools to foster critical thinking and problem solving.  These are necessary skills that they will need throughout their lifetime.

At the heart of every school is the Media Center.  First, it serves in the traditional role as a library – a repository of books – engaging children in a variety of subjects.  In the 21st century it has the expanded responsibility of immersing students in the use of technology.  We need significant upgrades to achieve the highest standards possible.  The upgrades needed in our Media Center are books, computers, software, white boards, and furniture.  In addition we need monitors to place in classrooms to provide access to multimedia technology.  We are determined to provide the essential resources, both print and nonprint, for our students so that they are information literate.

Public funds are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of the Media Center.   Thus, we have launched the Wellwood Media Center Fund.  This fund is administered by the Baltimore County Public Schools Foundation, and is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code.  We are seeking contributions to help us raise the $100,000 necessary to purchase books, furniture, computers, white boards, and software for the Media Center, as well as monitors to place in classrooms to provide access to multimedia technology.  We are launching an internal campaign to raise funds from our own Wellwood International family, and throughout the community.  Please lend your support to this very worthy cause.  We are committed to building a strong academic foundation for our children.  They are our brightest future.
