Multiple chemical sensitivities Multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) is an illness that has generated considerable controversy since the first definition was proposed over a decade ago. There is little doubt that those suffering MCS are unwell, suffering and disabled, but the definition of disease requires classification and understanding of the pathophysiology, and this is lacking in MCS. Considerable recent evidence, however, tends to support the observations of many thousands of medical practitioners world wide, namely that MCS is related to occupational or environmental exposure to volatile and potentially hazardous chemicals, and that it has a number of features incompatible with known psychiatric or psychological disorders. This page is designed to become a resource centre and jump site for people with MCS or their carers. Articles of relevance have been gathered and converted to web (HTML) format or Acrobat format for downloading. Some of the articles below are available in Acrobat (.pdf) format for downloading (click on the "Acrobat" after the name). This preserves the original "look and feel" of the document, but requires that the user have Adobe Acrobat 3.1 (available free of charge from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com). Other documents are in HTML format, and are viewed through your browser. The list of documents available from this site will change over time, so if you remember seeing one no longer listed, please email Mark and request it, being as precise as possible about content.
