Leading Off

I often tell friends, family, and colleagues that music keeps me sane. I notice that when work gets so busy that I steal time from playing to work, my stress level increases dramatically. So I do my best to make sure that I attend my weekly practice and my weekly jam.

This blog will be an attempt to keep track of all of the ways that music makes life better. I can define a few right off the bat (to maintain the baseball metaphor). Playing music allows me to concentrate deeply on something that is neither computers in education nor college level History. It's a physical (in a small muscle sense) rather than an entirely mental exercise. Performing can be a very validating experience. Also, listening to music (as long as it's not something I recorded) can be a deeply relaxing, a powerfully envigorating, or even a cathartic experience.

So from here on out, I will discuss the ways in which music affects my life.

Stay tuned and be well,
Daniel
