Indefensible
Attention Fundamentalist
Christians:
Your efforts to secure a
society that lives by your fundamentalist Christian values through state and
federal legislation run at cross purposes to the Constitution. We call people
who prejudge and are intolerant of others who look, believe, or act differently
bigots. Your complaints about abortion, gay marriage, and other "culture war"
issues amount to bigotry. And your efforts to turn your collectively held
individual beliefs into law are detrimental to the political health of a nation
you profess to love so dearly.
In other
words, you are bigoted tyrants.
If we
live in a land where homosexuals are not allowed to marry and women are not
allowed to decide what is in their own best interest with regard to reproductive
health, then we do not live in a land where everyone is "endowed by their
creator with certain unalienable rights." We live in land where everyone is
equal as long as they hold fundamentalist Christian
values.
It is time you looked at your
goals and tactics and decided if the ends justify the means. Because at the
moment you seem to have forgotten moral and ethical behavior and are favoring
the naked exercise of power.
