Itchy, Itchy Spider
Every house I've lived in has had its signature
bug.
My parents' house in VA has
crickets
Our apartment in DC had
roaches.
Our old house had
earwigs
This new house has
spiders.
Spiders, spiders, everywhere.
They especially love the basement, but also like to crawl up in the corners
where the wall meets the ceiling.
I've
been know to run screaming out of the house from the mere sight of a spider. An
illogical action if you think about it; shouldn't there be millions more spiders
outside?
But now I'm the mother of two
young children. Two young children obsessed with their new friends, the
spiders.
Today's spider is about the
size of a quarter and she is lodged up in the ceiling corner of the hallway,
right by D's room. D named her "Sarah" and her brother serenaded her with the
following song:
"Itchy, Itchy spider
went up the water spout
Down came the rain.
Spider went out.
Sun, sun, sun sun, dried up
all the rain,
And Itchy, itchy spider went
up the spout again."
(complete with
itchy hand motions. these are the days I want to drag out the video
camera)
What's a arachnophobic mom to
do? Learn to live in peace with our spider friends, I suppose.
