We may have a problem here.
Family legend is that I learned to read on a map
of Northern Virginia. We had moved right before I started Kindergarten and mom
needed help getting around, so I learned how to read a map, and in the process,
learned to read. (Back then we weren't locked in the back seat in car seat
contraptions. We could sit in the front and be
useful.)
So fast forward 31 years to
today. D. had her Kindergarten orientation today, which basically consisted of
sitting in a classroom, drawing a picture and eating a snack. She enjoyed it
thoroughly.
When we got home, she
picked up the newspaper, turned to me and said, "Oh look, mama. 20 percent off
at Bed-Bath-eight-Bee-Yo-en-dee."
Oh
great. My daughter is learning to read from Sunday newspaper sale circulars.
This can't be good.
But yes, we'll be
stopping by "Bed Bath & Beyond" on the way back from gymnastics tomorrow. A
20% off coupon? Not bad. Not bad at all. Maybe we can do some math while
we're there.
