Report Card
I've been alone with the kids for the
last two weeks as D went on a fantastic vacation tour of Vietnam, Hong Kong and
Taiwan. (OK, so he was working and working hard....but he didn't have to do
dishes for a week. That's a partial vacation in my
book.)
I did much better on
this trip than on previous
ones:
TV
- kept it to under an hour each day for both me and the kids.
(previous trips - up to 2
hours. one day even
3.)
Food
- no fast food on this trip. Managed a fruit and a veggie with each meal.
(previous trips - can you say
drive
through?)
Exercise
- joined a gym, so I managed to exercise almost ever day.
(previous trips - couch
potato)
Work
- didn't miss a day of work and even managed to do some work on my home days
(previous trips - missed
plenty and got nothing done on my home
days.)
Health
- no one got sick (last trip -
pink eye and a stomach bug. in the same
week.)
Appliances
- nothing broke. (earlier
trip - car died.)
Adult
contact - invited friends over for 1
lunch, 1 dinner, and had 3 playdates. I didn't go
crazy.
Snow
- only had to shovel once.
(last trip: two snowstorms
and 8 inches of heavy wet
snow.)
Some
things still need
work...
Showers
- didn't manage to shower every day. The kids got into the play-dough during
one of my showers. Big mess. Big disincentive for future
showers.
Caffeine
- I discovered coffee during this trip. Bad
news.
Yelling
- At about 8:43 each night, I'd start yelling. bedtime is 8-8:30 and the kids
just weren't going to bed. So, I yelled. It didn't help. It just made bedtime
louder. (and probably
later.)
My 7:30 Monday
Morning Staff Meeting - ha. ha. ha.
ha. I didn't get to work before 9 most
days.
Laundry
- by the end of the week, no one was wearing matching clothes or matching
socks.
Shopping
- Target just calls to me. With no husband there to intercept the call, it's
not so
good.
Sleep
- For some reason, I can't go to bed until 12 or 1 when I'm alone. Kids are up
at 6. Yawn.
But D is home now
- safe and sound (despite being awoken by an earthquake in Taiwan this morning!)
so life is good and I can relax for a minute or two.
