When Worlds Collide

Sunday is my favorite day of the week. I get to curl up with the two newspapers that come in print (NYTimes and the Wisconsin State Journal) and I treat myself to the on-line version of the Washington Post. The Economist comes on Saturday, so I finally get to sit down and read it on Sunday. So much to read - I'm in heaven.

Today was busy, with church and a long run and cleaning and working, so I didn't get through as much as usual. I noticed that I focused my reading on two main things:

1) Hezbollah and what to think of Nasrallah. I was surprised this wasn't a bigger story. The Wisconsin paper barely mentioned it. (big surprise there.) so I had to dig into the other two. Still, not much meat on the story. Lots of facts. Not much analysis. Maybe next week. Am I the only one who thinks Syria's proposed pullout has huge implications for Lebanon, Israel, the middle east and the world? Hasn't Hezbollah been in favor of Syrian involvement? So what happens when they leave? Does Hezbollah become mainstream? I don't really think the middle east can afford another black hole right now and this Nasrallah guy really scares me. But, I haven't really read as much as I should to form an educated opinion so I'll keep reading.

2) The Incredibles DVD comes out on Tuesday. If I buy it at Shopko, I get $4 off a giant package of Tide. If I buy it at Target, I'll get a free bottle of mineral water. If I buy it at Circuit city, I get a free basketball. If I buy it at Sears, I get a free radio. If I buy it at Best Buy, I get a free poster. If I buy it at Disney Store, oh, I can't remember what the premium was at Disney store, but I'm sure they had one. What's a mom to do?

I'd like to say I spent much more time reading about the affairs of Lebanon and Syria than I did researching Sunday sales flyers to figure out where I could get the best deal on the Incredibles. I'd really like to think I did. But I suspect I spent about equal time on each topic. Such is my life right now.....
