Sick and Sicker

I broke a cardinal rule of parenting this week - you know the one - the "mom shalt never get sick" one.

Yes, I got the stomach bug from Davis. No fun at all. Luckily, it was a 24 hour thing, and I'm back on my feet today.

Weeks like this are when I'm grateful for part-time work. See, when you work part-time, no one is really sure when you are supposed to be there. Even though you have emailed your schedule multiple times and have it clearly marked on your group calendar in Outlook, they don't get it. If you aren't there, they just assume it is one of your "off" days. So, with all this illness, I haven't really been to work on my normal schedule since last Wednesday, and no one has even noticed yet. (Any dreams of grandeur I have about being an essential employee have certainly been dashed.)

The kids thought it was great. Dana got home from school on Monday afternoon and got to watch more TV than she normally watches in an entire week. It wasn't my finest parenting moment: "Mama, can we go outside and play? It's a really nice day!" was answered with "NO. We are staying inside and watching TV because mommy can't get up from this couch. And that's final." And then I rolled over while they watched one more Kim Possible episode. Thank God for TiVO.

Speaking of Kim Possible - I'm sure I'm supposed to hate it. She's a cheerleader who wears midriff bearing outfits in every episode. But, man, she rocks. Yesterday, they had this great episode where they were sucked into the television. It was hilarious. It has all these pop culture reference the kids could in no way grasp (Star Trek, Queer Eye, and Talk Shows)- but I loved them.

Now, if I could just get Davis to stop referring to himself as a "Naked Mole-rat" when we are out in public...
