Training

My mother asked me the other day, "How's training?"

I excitedly answered, "It's going great. My long run is up to 9 miles and I'm getting up at 5:30 am almost every day and fitting in the shorter runs. I think I might actually do this marathon in October."

She paused and said, "No, not you....I was asking about D. How is his potty training going?"

So, now the race is on. Can D be potty trained by the time I run the Marine Corps Marathon? He'll be 3 in September. My goal is to have it done by his birthday. Or not. Depending. He didn't seem to get the memo on goal setting. We're working on that.

He's much more challenging than his sister was. None of the usual bribes (stickers, candy) work. The only two things that seem to offer any incentive for him are:
1) letting him go naked after using the potty
2) reading Richard Scary books to him while he sits on the toilet. (and it must be Richard Scary. No other book will do.)

So far, today, he's stayed au natural and has gone in the toilet 3 times and on floor 1 time.

And I can recite "A day at the airport " by heart.

I wonder if there are any long lasting psychological ramifications of reading a book in which the main character is named 'Lowly the Worm' whilst potty-training a boy. I hope not.
