After eight years in the classroom, John decided to return to the U.S. to get a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration at Indiana University. He then transferred to Aramco Services (ASC) in Houston. There he ran the Career Development department, a group that has assisted hundreds of Saudi students studying in the U.S., working to ensure their success. He later ran a program that provided young Saudi employees internships at companies throughout the U.S., giving them exposure to a wide variety of companies and industries. For the last 5 years, he’s been in Human Resources, managing the benefits programs for our folks! John made the most of his time in Dhahran. He spent many of his weekends racing through the desert on his Suzuki RM370 or visiting the suqs in Dammam and Hofuf. He also took full advantage of the travel opportunities Aramco provided. He was a regular on the long weekend trips to Tehran, Amman and Cairo, and went on safaris to Kenya and Tanzania during his vacations. He particularly enjoyed his 10-day trip to the Kenya’s Ngorongoro crater, one of the natural wonders of Africa. He also lived in a houseboat in Kashmir for a while and made several trips to Beirut. John and Christine, his wife of 25 years, have continued their travels over the last decade, visiting much of Europe, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. At some point in the next 5 years, they plan to retire to Cour d’Alene, Idaho, where they have 11 acres in a gorgeous area.
